TaeSu

The tae-su is an elusive species of fish, notable for its prominent barbels and its rose-coloured markings. A cousin of the megamouth, the tae-su has the ability to open its jaws to seemingly impossibly great angles, to swallow whole prey that is often larger than itself.

The tae-su spends its life alone; this is largely out of necessity, as it cannot tell its own kind from its potential meals or otherwise. This includes during its mating season, which occurs in the warmer months, once every three years. Eggs are layed in masses in deep waters, hidden in coral reefs and underwater crannies, before being promptly abandoned. Despite the large numbers in which they are layed, few survive past the first few days of childhood, due to an unfortunate combination of a voracious nature and lack of consumable alternatives.

In spite of the tae-su's aggressive tendancies and appearance, it is not considered dangerous to any but the newer and physically-challenged exiles. Seeming to be fully aware of this, the tae-su will attempt to obscure itself in shallow waters while its prey approaches, and attack from the behind.
