Tenebrion is a powerful being who lives on an island to the northwest of Puddleby, and due east of the Peaceful Island, (which is commonly known as Centaur Isle). From the evidence of his control over the Undine, and his own admissions, Tenebrion should be considered a Necromancer. In appearance, he is a Sylvan however, he is dark.

Tenebrion is fascinated by the abilities that exiles have to avoid death, and to depart. Analysis of his interests leads us to believe that both of these abilities are impossible for him. Upon learning of Purgatory (by seeing exiles depart) and learning that some powerful healers can employ a device known as a Purgatory Pendant Tenebrion conceived a desire for a Pendant of his own. After some negotiation he managed to convince Oracle, a healer of the Black Unicorn to give him one.

[It is unknown to this reporter what exactly was promised in exchange for this first Pendant, however I am fairly sure that Tenebrion failed to deliver. It is my understanding that he claimed extenuating circumstances due to exiles attempting to visit him. This reporter remains unconvinced that Tenebrion can be considered to have made good faith attempt to keep up his end of the bargin.]

Tenebrion soon learned that Healers capable of using the Purgatory Pendants have special skills allowing them to employ these tools, taught to them by Virgil (a fourth circle healing trainer). As Tenebrion broke the first Pendant he was given he decided that he needed to speak with Virgil. He made several attempts to learn more about Virgil, and to speak with him, sparking considerable controversy, as exiles debated the wisdom of allowing him either access or knowledge. It is worth noting here that Tenebrion's choices for emissaries seemed ill versed in negotiation skills, and appeared more concerned with finding information to provide to Tenebrion in order to avoid his wrath than in negotiating any sort of exchange.

Both Hekus, Master of the healing halls, and Virgil himself have claimed that should Tenebrion pass the healing tests, and be ready [sic] for the knowledge, they would have no choice but to teach him, he has yet to avail himself of this offer.

Given the difficulty Tenebrion has had in speaking with Virgil, he returned to his earlier avenue of studying the Pendants directly. To date, he has acquired at least 4 Pendants, and managed to break all of them. Readers should be cautioned that his experiments seem to have had an effect on Purgatory. On one recent occasion all the Mystics in the lands sensed unusual emanations from Purgatory. Manx, a fourth circle healer investigated Purgatory directly, but found nothing. Another exile, Aurion proceeded to Tenebrion's keep and questioned him. Tenebrion indicated that he had just broken a Pendant at the time the disturbance was noticed.

Mere days after the above incident, Axell, another 4th circle healer noticed her Pendant flickering strangely, and reported that it failed to operate correctly while she was trapped in the Orga Camp. She said she was able to get it to operate on her second attempt, but the strange flickering does seem to indicate a previously unknown instability.

The evidence regarding Purgatory is circumstantial at best, but it is safe to say that no instabilities were evident to exiles in general, prior to the point at which Tenebrion began to acquire Pendants and perform his experiments.

At the present time, Tenebrion has a standing offer: he will exchange a Sword of Souls (an item he is capable of creating) for a Purgatory Pendant. These swords seem to suck out the life of things killed with them, reminding some exiles of the Soulglasses, which were first discovered prior to the Ripture War. The swords also seem to require polishing to maintain their ability.

Tenebrion has responded harshly to the constant attempts by exiles to explore his home. He has launched several abortive attacks on Puddleby, and has employed Darshak Pirates as mercenaries to supplement his own forces.

With repeated, inconclusive raids on both sides, Tenebrion began to attempt to form treaties with Puddleby, however the anarchic nature of our settlement led him to give up on this idea. He is now attempting to form treaties with individual clans. These treaties are at the very least, nonaggression pacts.

Presently, a sort of uneasy truce exists between Puddleby and Tenebrion. Visitors to Tenebrion's keep are to be warned that many exiles have agreed not to aid those bold enough to venture there.

It should also be noted that the ban on trespassing extends only to the Poppy field, and to the Keep itself. Tenebrion has not restricted access to the rest of his island.

Tenebrion is also known to be a member of a large family, though to date we have met only one of these: his brother Umbrion. It is safe to say that of the two, Tenebrion is by far the more congenial.
