Orcipus

Well, you want to hear about Orcipus the Pig and how he became blazoned across the sky. Hrrm. Well, where I come from, the creatures you call pigs are called shoats, but, I think I can tell you a portion of his story. Note that Orcipus was famous (for a shoat) even before this, and there are many legends of his exploits. This however, does seem to be his final deed.

The waning of Year 240 of the Ascendancy saw Orcipus the shoat and his "master" Ognar warm, well fed, and wet in the small village of Loxan. It had been a mild winter combined with a beautiful summer, leading to a bountiful harvest. Thus Ognar decided to take the trip into Fezrael, the major city of the province, for Jagang, the harvest festival.

This Jagang was much like many others I'm sure you have seen. Farmers of every sort of produce showing off their prized specimens, ranchers showing off their livestock. The young all seeking lifemates at full tilt. Con artists trying to sell snake oil, when everyone knows Uli Flowers have the properties they seem to be selling. The usual.

Well, not quite the usual. The Emperor, whose name I will not utter, was making an effort this year. He was trying to smooth out minor arguments and convince his people to love him. He had assembled a coterie of high-ranking nobles and influential merchants, and was not-so-subtly trying to convince them he was "one of the people" by enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

It was not going so well, as can be expected when he had unleashed the Seekers and Sentinels on yet another region for harboring free-thinking individuals. No smoke can be seen from Fezrael, but the fear can still be smelt. The stark terror of the farmers being judged, the humidity, and the oppressive heat were all combining to put the Emperor in a fearsome state. Not that he really needed any help for that, but so it is said anyway.

Ognar, a very simple and practical fellow, wasn't afraid of the Emperor. Well, he was afraid, but he was forging ahead while keeping his attitude as happy and respectful as he could manage.
