MeetingSpiritLordSunstoneby Snrub There are things to be very afraid of, and not all of them are the beasties running loose. It began with a mind-numbing thought bursting its way through my mind like a Sand Tiger's claws through unprotected flesh. The Spirit Lord Sunstone was once again in the lands around Puddleby and it appeared that he was slightly miffed that no one had been searching fer him. If I'd known.... bah, better to not say such things, never know but that some rats can read. I asked around, but none had seen his Brightness. I searched where I thought the great light may have been, but it was a fruitless search. I made the grievous mistake of communicating with his Lightness as I was a tad disrespectful and he sent me to the Astral Plane for my penance. I was able to escape the Astral Plane, but a Wraith and a Wailing Spirit connived to do me in and they were successful. Blessed be the gods for returning me home, such as it is. But once I was back, Sunstone sent me the mental taunt of:
I began my search anew. Others were searching now as well. I compared notes with Sten, who knew that his Beamness must be in someplace that the wild beasties do not roam, as he is particular about his pet doves. So we forged our way to the Southern Marsh and invaded the hidden camp. Spirit Lord Sunstone was there resting his roundness. He did not seem to be pleased to see us as we already had sunstones in our possession. He had his fowl pets with him as well. A warnings to ya, Don't Mess With The Birds, even if they do look like the same scummy birds on the beaches of Puddleby. His Shinyness likes to call them his DOVES. At least one silly person had the displeasure of being sent to the Astral Plane for killing one of his Glowingness's pets. He dispensed Sunstones to all who had none. But I fear that his gifts have a heavy price tag. Spirit Lord Sunstone likes to visit deathly jokes upon us. He apparently fancies himself to be some sort of godlike jester and we are his playthings. After his Brilliance had left I thought I might visit his plane. Once I arrived I shouted as loud as I could in order to get him to notice me as I knew that I would never find him in all the fog. He showed himself immediately, but ignored me for some time. That was when I got one of those gut-wrenching, foreboding feelings that Puddleby was in grave danger. I asked Sunstone fer the boon of being sent back to Puddleby as I feared for the place. I was ignored, but I was determined and patient. But it became obvious that he was ignoring me. So I bid him goodbye and then he deemed to start talking to me. So I asked for my boon again and his comment was:
I may not be the brightest of my mother's children, but I recognized the attitude immediately. He then said:
And he was true to his word. But then things started to get really wrong. I managed to find my way through the fog and found the exit from the Astral Plane. This time I avoided the nasty Wraith and Wailing Spirit that had done me in earlier and escaped to the next level of the Undine Castle. But then hordes of undine started appearing in my path as if to prevent my escape. However, I was determined and I fought dozens of undine to get to the castle exit, but I was slowed greatly. Once back in Puddleby I was told that a Greater Wraith had come and wreaked havoc about the town. I regretted that I could not have gotten there faster and possibly have prevented so much unnecessary pain, but the citizens made me proud to be an Exile as they rose in unison and slew the foul creature. I suspect that this spirit lord had a hand in preventing me from getting back to Puddleby to help battle this creature of death and he seems to derive pleasure from watching us being tormented. I think that it may be wise to consider his gifts of the sunstones to be suspect as well. And there may be some who are a little too cozy with his Radiance. For what reason would one who enjoys our misery so much, come bringing us such powerful gifts. What are these sunstones really costing us? Snrub (proudly in exile) |
