Snell

Snells are the basic screen units that the world is built upon. Since it's not practical to load the entire game map into memory, it has been broken down into hundreds or thousands of discrete snells. An entire snell is typically much larger than the viewable portion of the game window; rooms in houses are an example of the exception.

There is no standard size for a snell. The size is determined by the needs of the designer who created the area. Most snell borders are seen as grey areas or impassable walls.
