TheForestHasAwakenedby Caddrel The signs appeared long before, but I took no notice, other needs pressing me far more heavily than what appeared then to be a trivial matter. Even now that I have discovered the full threat behind those much too small clues, I fear that it is far too late to do anything about it. The forests have awakened... It started almost two weeks ago, when people began talking of an orga presence in the forest. The rumours began after a burnt-out campfire was found in the large forest to the east of Puddleby, which people claimed the ogras had started. When I went to investigate the campfire myself I was both astonished and shocked. There was a Tree Spirit present, awoken from its sleep. The Spirit said it had been awoken by the cutting and burning of the trees. At that time, the Spirit wasn't threatening, but there was anger in its voice over the felling of the trees and the what it called the 'desecration of the circle'. It also claimed that orgas had started the fire, and that they had a base somewhere in the area. Before I could question it further however, me and the other Sun Dragon members, who had also come to investigate the site, suddenly found ourselves back in the Crystal Temple in Puddleby. When we returned to the campfire the Tree Spirit was gone. Despite the disappearance of the Spirit, my fellow members and I examined the area around the tree circle as we had originally planned, and confirmed the rumours and the Spirit's claim that orgas had started the fire. Anything else we could not find, as the tracks were already two days old and had been trampled over by the many passers-by since then. We immediately started to search the forest for the ogras, but even after many hours of searching we could not find a trace of a camp or village. We reported our findings to our clan leader, but nothing else was done, as the threat of an orga invasion of the forest seemed remote, especially with the Tree Spirit awakened. Almost two weeks later, we have now discovered that we are faced by a threat far greater than any other we could have imagined before. The awakening of the Tree Spirit was just the start, for now other things have come alive in the forests, things more sinister that do not care for other peoples, and who would kill them instantly if given the chance. I met one of these things, at that time a mighty Tree Giant, two days ago, wandering through the forest at amazing speeds for its size. As I went to meet it, hoping to discover its intent, it struck me a blow that would make even a Maha Ruknee look like a china doll, snapping my sword off at the hilt. If I had not immediately fled, its second attack would have surely killed me. Now I come to the point of this report, to say that if we do not stem this tide now, Puddleby will be overrun in a matter of weeks, as the trees awaken and take vengeance on the people who have for so long exploited the countryside. Though I am not sure at this point how to stop them, as a direct attack would be futile and would only bring their wrath down on us all the sooner, I do know that if something is not done in the next few weeks, none of Puddleby will not be left standing at the end of the month. |
