AsklepianIn the Spring of 571, Elaph Sisima and Rady Ann emerged from a workshop in the Healer Temple to announce the results of their research into multi-target distance healing. Using a Selenite Crystal, they created a new healing tool named an Asklepian. Using the Asklepian as a focus of healing energy, they claimed they could heal many exiles at once, from a distance. However, the then-current version of the staff poorly controlled the energy flow, as witnessed by the disintegration of Elaph's Asklepian while demonstrating its use in town. Shortly thereafter, their fellow researcher Chiron came to town, seeking additional Selenite crystals for further experiments on stability. Chiron accepted a crystal from Galadriel and promised to build an Asklepian for testing. Several days thereafter, Chiron returned and presented Galadriel with the first Asklepian in exile hands. Chiron warned that the Asklepian remains unstable and may break disastrously and is not effective at healing only one or even two wounded exiles. He also noted that using one requires a mastery of basic healing skills as assessed by passing the 4th circle healer test, that receiving healing through it required that the target exiles be sharing with the healer using it, and that it was not useful for healing fallen exiles or bursting individual exiles (Elaph Sisima has created a distinct tool, the Asklepian Staff for this purpose). Chiron explained that training with Proximus was only tangentially effective for the Asklepian, but that he and Rady Ann had formulated a training regimen specifically for this tool, which now is taught by their helper Radium. Galadriel's testing with the Asklepian revealed that it could heal multiple shared exiles at once with varying efficiency, so that healing speed on each wounded exile dropped as new exiles enter the healing zone and rose as exiles leave the zone or become fully healed. Total healing on all targeted exiles seemed equivalent to that on a single exile with a Caduceus, but Rady Ann's description of Radium's teachings suggest that in addition to sheer range, this training will also increase the fractional efficiency of healing somewhat. The healing zone seems to be 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the high efficiency zone of a Caduceus (for a given Proximus training level). Exiles walking out of the healing zone simply stop being healed, without draining the healer's spirit away inefficiently. |
