BirthdayCake The most complicated of all confections, the Birthday Cake is the symbol of true mastery for a baker. One cannot buy this cake from an assistant at the Bakery. The name is misleading; in fact, the majority of cakes accompany weddings, where the baker has the chance to show off their decorating skills by creating a masterpiece for the bride and groom. Skilled decorators can bedeck a cake in sugar flowers, add borders, banners and words, even create figures from sugar dough and food dye. Sometimes the recipient is loathe to even cut the cake, as it would be akin to tearing apart a work from the Museum. |
