ClumpOfHops

A variety of flowering plant cultivated in the farms near Puddleby for use as a stabiliser and flavouring agent in a variety of beers. For production of stout, hops are boiled with the beer. The resulting stout is more or less bitter depending on how many hops were added and how long they were boiled. If added near the end of the boil, hops add their distinctive flavour (and are nowhere near as bitter) as if boiled for a longer duration. Hops are usually boiled late for beers such as lager.

The part of the hops used in brewing is the scabrous seed-vessel of the female plant, which can easily be picked by hand.
