FurFur refers to the soft body hair of mammals. Furs are valued for their use in making clothing and accessories, and is Puddleby's main export. The fur trade is handled mainly by Zan Bountipay, who purchases furs from exiles, and sells them to merchants on the Mainland-- an illegal act. Still, that hasn't stopped Zan and his colleagues (Skea and Skorr Brightfur) from continuing to participate in the lucrative business. The value of a fur is determined by a number of factors, including color, size, and rarity. For example, the fur of the Maha Ruknee (especially its mane), is considered extremely valuable for its magnificent golden sheen; while the fur of the Sasquatch is valued for its enormous size, and the difficulty of parting it from its owner. In general, the higher the value of a fur, the more difficult it is to recover. Luckily, the instructor Skea Brightfur can teach exiles the ancient art of skinning, which can improve one's chances in recovering a pelt. |
