SandRay![]() Recognised by their distinctive "flight" through the water, sand rays are a common sight in tropical coastal waters. Their large pectoral fins, which are often thought of as wings, provide their means of transportation. Sand Rays surf beneath the waves, preferring to frolic near the ocean floor than near the chaotic crashing of waves. They are flat, and glide near-effortlessly through the shallows. The whiplike tail that sand rays use as a rudder is also a weapon, armed with barbs and a serrated texture. While they are not terribly aggressive, they will attack when large predators (such as a rowboats bearing exiles) splash into their lagoons or reefs. Rays will circle around after attacking to regain their balance, and are generally not much more dangerous than jellyfish besides their considerably better mobility. |
