SeaSprigginMythical creatures said to dance upon the deep seas. The origins, and indeed, the existence of these mysterious sprites has not been verified, but legends tell that they are the lonely spirits of the wives of sailors who have drowned at sea. In some tales they are treacherous, leading ships aground, while in other stories they are portrayed as gentle guides who lead sailors to safety. Whatever their true nature, sea spriggins are usually described as wispy female spirits with voices like the wind. In some stories they are found in groups, but most often, they are encountered alone. Sea spriggins bear no relation to the devious spriggins found in the isles of Lok'Groton. The name "spriggin" comes from an ancient human tongue, and means "fairy" or "spirit." Sea spriggins are often the subject of the songs of bards, including Blue-- one of Puddleby's most talented musicians. |
